Celebrating Clients’ Success
Murphy Management Partners has the privilege of sponsoring a client’s celebratory Gala this weekend. The Wine Thief, in Frankfort Il is hosting its first annual wine tasting gala on Sunday. The bistro and specialty wine shop was slated to open mid March 2020, yes, just as the world started shutting down. The owners, Ed and Valerie, opened for business on schedule including personally delivering wine purchases to friends and neighbors who had wished them well with a subscription. With creativity, grit and determination, the business succeeded by meeting customers where they were comfortable in these unprecedented times. This meant curbside pickup, “igloos” for outdoor dining, wine tasting events presented via Zoom, continually sourcing interesting dishes and wines, and slowly expanding indoor service, all while finding, developing and keeping an excellent staff.
This got me to thinking about how all huge businesses started with an idea in a founder’s heart and mind. In one survey 40% of job creation was from small businesses, and an ever increasing number of people identify as “gig-workers” or freelance professionals. According to PWC: “How we work, the place of work within our lives and even what we mean by work are being transformed.” This has profound implications for leaders in businesses both large and small. Leaders’ relationships with those who make their work successful will continue to change, the boss’s authority and consistent resource of a full employee may be unavailable. This means some of the entrepreneur’s creativity, grit and determination must be spent on the development of a relationship and understanding with their partners, contractors, freelancers, gig-workers and yes, employees who are working remotely. Are you and your leaders equipped to orchestrate a hybrid team such as this? I know someone who can help you! I would be delighted to sponsor your gala next year!
